Chef Jamie's Blog - Wallace and Gromit make guest appearance at Thurrock and Havering Schools
Hi all
Just wanted to let you all know about the great time we had at Tilbury Manor And St Albans Primary Schools on the 8th and 9th of May.
Chef Derek and myself went to these schools last week to do one of our 'Lets Get Cooking' events, but what we didn’t tell the children was that Pasta King had arranged that Wallace And Gromit would join in the fun and surprise the children. Both days were a complete success. Also, everything that we cooked at the event in the morning was served as a special treat for the children at lunchtime; Quorn Chow Mein, Sweet Chilli Chicken Pasta, and of course Wallace and Gromit Pasta in tomato sauce, all washed down with a fruit smoothie and a Wallace and Gromit biscuit.
I would like to thank Linda from Pasta King for bringing Wallace and Gromit along for us, and I have enclosed a few pictures. But watch this space as we have filmed both events and will be uploading this onto here in the near future.
Many thanks
Jamie

Hello all. Hope you are all having a nice holiday.
Just thought I would drop a quick note to you all to let you know about how the street food theme days are doing in the secondary schools. If you don’t know about it, where you been, all the kids are talking about it!!
Build a Burger day is going from strength to strength. Last time we did it we sold out, selling over 150 in half an hour, plus the fab sticky BBQ ribs as well.
Then we tried the Mexican theme at The Covent in Grays, and at Redden court. These too were very popular with the children, Salsa music blaring out all lunchtime and a great meal deal consisting of nachos, tacos, and fajitas; all this for £2.00. Great value for money and a brilliant atmosphere.
Finally a taste of the Caribbean hit St Edwards school in Romford on the last week of term. All I can say is Move over Levi Roots, Chef Jamie is in the house ha-ha, Curried Goat, rice and peas, and Jerk chicken Combo once again all for £2.00. We even served up Lamb and Vegetable Patties if you wanted the complete Caribbean experience. Once again filled the school hall with Reggae music all lunchtime, Loved it!!!!
We will continue with the theme days for the rest of year so just watch out for the poster for when it will be coming to your school.
More exciting news for next month, we will be filming live one of our “Lets Get Cooking” events that we do in the Primary schools with a couple of guests from the big screen. Wallace and Gromit will be joining us on the 8th and 9th May in schools in Havering, and Thurrock. Locations are a secret for now, but watch this space for the film premiere.

Important Statement - Food Standards
In light of the recent publicity concerning beef products containing horse meat and pork, Havering Catering Services would like to reassure schools and parents that all of our meat supplies are fully traceable.
We have achieved Gold Food for Life, which sets high standards for suppliers and the sourcing and provenance of food supplies.
We do not use any imported meat and our sausages and burgers are organic and made locally in Purfleet using locally sourced meat. We are in contact with our major suppliers - Brakes, WWMeats, Thomas Ridley, Smart Foods, who have reassured us that there is no concern with any of their products. They are conducting additional, precautionary testing anyway.

First of all I know it's a bit late but Happy New Year to all of the Cooks in Thurrock and Havering. Just dropping a quick note to let you know what I have been up to in the last couple of weeks.
Secondary Schools
Theme days, Theme days, Theme days.
Already managed to do three this year. Hall Mead had a 'Build a Burger' American Theme Day, Bower Park had a Mexican Theme, and we launched Porridge pots for breakfast at William Edwards School and fresh soups for morning break and lunchtime. We sold out of both on the day. It was a great success and a good idea at this time of year, now the cold weather has set in.
Primary Schools
We have a theme day this week. Chef Derek's Circus Day should be a good one. Menu looks great.
I will be concentrating on "Lets Get Cooking" in the Thurrock Schools over the next couple of months so watch this space for all the photos.
Well that's all for now.
See you soon,
Chef Jamie
